First genome-edited plants now entered

According to the ruling on case C-528/16 (25 July 2018) of the European Court of Justice, organisms produced by targeted mutagenesis are now considered as GMOs by EU regulation.

In the ongoing process of adding new GMOs into the database, we recently started to add information on this group of GMOs.

You will find, for example:

• soybeans with an improved fatty acid composition produced using TALEN (GE-FAD2KO Soybean, GE-FAD3KO Soybean)

• a potato with reduced enzymatic darkening and discoloration of the tubers produced using TALEN (GE-Low PPO5 potato)
