Description:

GLA safflower was produced by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of the safflower cultivar ‘Centennial’ with the vector pSBS4119. The aim of the modification is an increased production of the fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) in the seeds of the GLA safflower plants, resulting in approximately 40 % of GLA in the safflower oil.
The transformation vector pSBS4119 contains two gene casettes:
- the delta-6-desaturase (delta6d) cassette that enables the plants to produce elevated levels of GLA in their seeds,
- the pat cassette that confers resistance to glufosinate to facilitate selection of the modified plants.
