PL73 E. coli (LYS) consists of a genetically modified strain of Escherichia coli K-12, named strain N°10S. Strain N°10S consists of the recipient strain NVC578 and two plasmid vectors named: pS183dT and pAKID14 containing genes/parts coming from two other microorganisms.

The purpose of the genetic modification is to increase the enzymatic activities of the L-lysine biosynthetic pathway and of the general metabolism pathway. PL73 E. coli (LYS) is intended to be used for the production of L-lysine by fermentation of substrates of agricultural origin.
