GE-OsALS-R rice was created with TALEN-mediated Homologous Recombination in the rice cultivar Kitaake. Target was the acetohydroxy acid synthase (AHAS) encoding gene.

The introduction of double point mutations to the AHAS endogenous loci resulted in tolerance to the pyrimidinyl carboxy herbicide bispyribac-sodium.

The genetic modifications were passed on into the T1 generation, while the transfer DNA was segregated out.
