Description:	KMD1 has been developed to be resistant to different lepidopteran pest species like the yellow stem borer, the striped stem borer and the rice leaf folder. For this purpose, the commercial japonica rice variety Xiushui 11 was transformed by the Agrobacterium-mediated method with the vector pKUB. The T-DNA of pKUB contains the cry1Ab gene from Bacillus thuringiensis under the control of the maize ubiquitin promoter, the regulatory elements P-35S from Cauliflower mosaic virus, T-nos from A. tumefaciens and the selection marker genes nptII (neomycin phosphotransferase) and hpt (hygromycin phosphotransferase). Furthermore, it contains the gus coding sequence used as a reporter for the cry1Ab gene. Sources: Babekova et al.
