The genetically modified wheat MON71300 contains the CP4 epsps gene from Agrobacterium tumefaciens. It is therefore resistant to glyphosate, commonly referred to as Round Up.
There is no further information available on the inserted construct or copy number.
On June 7 2019, USDA-APHIS confirmed the discovery of genetically engineered wheat plants growing in an unplanted agricultural field in Washington State. The wheat in question were the events MON71300 and MON71800, both containing the same gene for glyphosate resistance.
APHIS announced that a test kit will be made available to detect MON71300.
